We’d like to invite you to join the LivePlan team for our #LivePlanChat on Twitter, every Tuesday from 12 – 1 p.m. EDT, where we discuss topics and questions that matter to small business owners and entrepreneurs. You can think of the #LivePlanChat as a free one-hour group chat with an industry expert who can give you advice on how to improve your small business!

Our Twitter chat is held directly on Twitter, hosted by @LivePlan. To participate in the discussion, add the #LivePlanChat hashtag to your tweets and respond with “A1” to respond to question 1, “A2” for question 2, etc. Additionally, the top chat contributor will win a $10 lunch gift-card on us.

This week’s #LivePlanChat featured guest is Judie McCarthy from Think Beyond the Desktop. Judie is an expert on cloud computing, a certified Bill.com Guru, an Advanced Certified Member of the QuickBooks ProAdvisor Program, and a member of the Sleeter Group Consultants Network. Our chat topic this week will be “Cloud-based Services for Your Small Business.”

Before our chat, it will be helpful to know two things:

1. What is “the Cloud”?

Cloud computing means storing and accessing data and programs over the Internet instead of on your computer’s hard drive. Cloud computing looks like local computing, but the computing power and storage space is accessed via the internet.

2. What types of cloud-based services are there?

Cloud computing allows you to pay as you go, and pay for what you use. Examples of cloud-based services are:

  • Online file storage like DropBox, Drive HQ, etc.
  • Software as a service (SaaS), like LivePlan, QuickBooks, etc.
  • Platform as a service (PaaS), like Salesforce
  • Infrastructure as a service (IaaS), like Xen, Oracle, etc.

During our chat, Judie McCarthy will help us answer the following questions:

  • What are the benefits of using a cloud-based service?
  • Are cloud-based services secure?
  • How much should I expect to spend on a cloud-based service?
  • What cloud-based service do you recommend for accounting?
  • What cloud-based service do you recommend for tracking business performance?
  • What cloud-based service do you recommend for managing accounts receivable/payable?

Do you have a question about cloud-based services? Post it in the comments below!
