In episode two of “The Hurdle,” Jade and Max catch up with repeat entrepreneur Thomas Pettus-Czar. His entrepreneurial journey started when he left graduate school to start a bar and cafe, The Barn Light. His journey was full of challenges and rewards, from launching a Kickstarter campaign to help him get to opening day, to developing relationships with suppliers and supporting employees who brought their own entrepreneurial visions to the table.

When an opportunity emerged, Thomas sold The Barn Light and opened Farmers Union Coffee Roasters. Then, a truly outside-the-box chance to diversify his entrepreneurship portfolio dropped at his feet: ownership of a contracting franchise that installs temporary walls in buildings like hospitals, laboratories and more.

Tune in to find out how Thomas prepared for business ownership, how he realized it was time to sell, and how he’s leapt at chances to take advantage of unexpected opportunities.
