Eugene, OR (PRWEB) February 28, 2013

Palo Alto Software, Inc., makers of LivePlan and Business Plan Pro, the #1 selling business planning, pitching, and management software in the world, have released their first, annual Small Business Indexbased on information provided by over 10,000 U.S. entrepreneurs projecting their impact on the U.S. economy in 2013.

Participants in the survey were asked questions about their U.S.-based small business, including funding requirements, job creation plans, and industry details. Some interesting data points from the survey include:

  • On average, US small business startups plan to spend $258,000 each in the U.S. economy this year
  • More than 2/3 of that planned spend, per business, would go towards job creation (with an average salary of $59,000/year)
  • $50,000 of that planned spend, per business, would be allocated towards marketing
  • The average small business startup estimated it would add 3 employees this year
  • The average small business startup funding needs include: $376,000 in investment funding, $322,000 in business loans, and/or $140,000 in credit

Interestingly, computer software companies topped the list of industries participating in the survey. Other top industries for entrepreneurial startup businesses this year included e-commerce, food & beverage, retail, health and wellness, and manufacturing.

Palo Alto Software CEO, Sabrina Parsons, commented, “Entrepreneurs are such an inspiring group of people, not just in theory, but also in action. We already know that small businesses contribute to all net job growth in the U.S. year over year, but it was nice to see that data underscored from our own customer base of entrepreneurs. They create jobs in their communities, innovate new products, and generally boost the economy. It’s awesome.”

The company expects to release a 2014 Small Business Index in January of next year including the incorporation of year-over-year comparisons.
